Charlie               Weis               was               fired               by               Notre               Dame               today.

Charlie               Weis               has               been               fired               by               the               Notre               Dame               Football               program               after               five               seasons               as               head               coach               of               the               Notre               Dame               Fighting               Irish,               and               the               team               will               now               begin               its               search               for               a               new               head               coach               to               take               the               reins               in               2010.

Notre               Dame               has               not               issued               an               official               statement               about               Weis               being               fired,               but               a               member               of               the               Notre               Dame               Football               staff               has               told               ESPN               that               the               coaches               were               informed               of               a               decision               earlier               in               a               meeting               on               Monday.

The               school's               athletic               director               has               also               confirmed               to               ESPN               that               the               removal               of               Weis               has               taken               place,               and               we               expect               a               press               conference               to               take               place               sometime               later               today.

The               decision               by               Notre               Dame               to               fire               Charlie               Weis               probably               won't               come               as               much               of               a               surprise               to               many               people               involved               with               college               football,               because               it               had               been               rumored               for               weeks               that               the               performance               of               the               Notre               Dame               Football               team               under               Charlie               Weis               was               heading               in               the               wrong               decision.

After               five               seasons               of               being               the               head               coach               at               Notre               Dame               both               team               officials               and               the               school               itself               had               wanted               much               better               results               than               Weis               has               given               them.

It               doesn't               seem               like               what               has               taken               place               in               Notre               Dame               can               all               be               placed               on               the               back               of               Charlie               Weis,               but               it               seems               that               Notre               Dame               feels               he               is               a               good               scape-goat               at               this               time.
Charlie               Weis               came               over               to               Notre               Dame               after               finding               success               as               the               offensive               coordinator               of               the               New               England               Patriots.

The               success               came               with               high               expectations               of               what               he               could               do               with               the               Notre               Dame               program,               and               that               came               with               a               huge               risk               when               he               originally               took               the               job.

Weis               immediately               found               success               for               the               team,               taking               them               to               two               BCS               Bowl               games               in               his               first               two               seasons.

It               is               the               past               couple               of               years               that               have               really               frustrated               supporters               of               the               program,               as               the               team               slipped               to               some               embarrassing               records               for               the               school,               and               the               6-6               record               this               season               tipped               the               scales.
Charlie               Weis               leaves               Notre               Dame               with               a               record               of               35-27,               which               isn't               bad               in               most               sports,               but               in               the               world               of               college               football               it               just               isn't               cutting               it.

Where               10-win               seasons               are               almost               a               must               in               order               to               keep               your               team               competitive,               Weis               is               being               shown               the               door               by               a               program               that               expects               much               more               than               this               from               its               head               coaches.

Another               loss               this               past               week               must               have               really               frustrated               people               at               Notre               Dame,               because               they               have               reacted               by               firing               him               before               even               finding               out               if               Notre               Dame               will               be               invited               to               a               post-season               bowl               game.

Now               we               wait               to               find               out               who               will               replace               Weis               in               both               the               short               term               and               the               long               term.
