Cole Arguello's blog ::Notre Dame Football: Why Malik Zaire Should Be Irish's Starting Quarterback - Bleacher Report

The               last               time               I               saw               a               beating               like               this               between               two               perennial               heavyweights,               Howard               Cosell               was               still               alive               and               making               his               famous               call               in               Kingston               Jamaica               at               the               site               of               the               famous               Foreman-Frazier               championship               fight.

If               you               happen               to               catch               the               lopsided               beating               that               Foreman               handed               Frazier               that               day,               you               will               get               to               listen               to               Cosell's               classic               call               of               "Down               goes               Frazier,               Down               goes               Frazier,               Down               goes               Frazier!"               Well,               the               recent               Notre               Dame               vs               Michigan               game               (played               on               Saturday,               September               15th)               will               leave               you               with               almost               the               same               feeling               as               that               classic               bout.

Notre               Dame               went               down               early,               and               like               Smokin               Joe               Frazier               decades               before,               they               should               have               had               the               good               sense               not               to               get               up               again.

Sometimes               your               best               bet               is               to               take               the               KO,               or               in               Notre               Dame's               case,               not               come               back               on               the               field               for               the               second               half               of               a               beating.

The               final               scored               said               it               all,               Notre               Dame               0,               Michigan               38.
Was               Notre               Dame's               defense               even               on               the               field               in               this               one,               cause               I               didn't               see               it.

Heisman               Trophy               candidate               Mike               Hart               ran               all               over               them               to               the               tune               of               186               yards               in               35               carries.

When               he               needed               a               spell,               Minor               gained               another               81               yards               rushing               for               Michigan.

As               if               that               one-two               running               punch               was               not               enough               to               KO               the               Irish,               Freshman               QB               Ryan               Mallet               threw               for               another               3               TDs               against               them.
On               the               other               side               of               the               ball,               Notre               Dame's               Freshman               QB               was               not               doing               as               well,               the               much               heralded               and               highly               recruited               Jimmy               Clausen               threw               for               only               72               yards.

he               probably               could               have               had               a               few               more               yards,               but               it's               really               hard               to               throw               while               sitting               on               your               butt.

Clausen               suffered               through               8               sacks               in               this               game.

The               Irish               rushing               attack               (counting               the               amount               of               times               Clausen               went               backwards)               netted               a               pitiful               0.8               yard               per               carry               on               the               ground.
At               least               former               Irish               QB               Demetrius               Jones               had               the               right               idea.

Jones               apparently               missed               the               team               bus,               and               quietly               slipped               out               of               Dodge.

Word               is               that               Jones               is               headed               for               Northern               Illinois.

Let's               think               about               that               for               a               second.

The               kid               who               started               this               train               wreck               of               a               season               for               the               Irish               at               QB,               would               rather               pack               his               bags               and               head               for               Northern               Freakin               Illinois.

Rats               abandon               ships               before               they               go               down               don't               they?

Well               prepare               for               this               Titanic               of               a               team               to               go               slowly               down               into               the               icy               waters               of               the               2007               NCAA               season.
If               you               missed               the               game               for               some               reason,               don't               worry,               you               can               always               flip               on               ESPN               Classic               and               catch               the               Foreman-Frazier               bout.

See               the               big               bad               boxer               known               as               George               Foreman               hit               the               smaller               heavyweight               champion               Joe               Frazier?

See               him               hit               Frazier               so               hard               that               he               keeps               knocking               him               to               the               canvas               time               and               time               again?

Now               pretend               that               Frazier               is               Notre               Dame               and               Foreman               is               Michigan.

The               game               went               pretty               much               the               same               way.
